Giveaway win, outside pics and weekend finds:

Hi Blog Friends!
It's a dreary day here in the valley.
I have lots to share, so grab your favorite beverage and enjoy your visit with me.

First, I want to share a wonderful giveaway win I received yesterday from Sara over at Salmon Falls Prims.

Sara held a surprise Americana giveaway a few weeks ago and I was one of the lucky winners!
I opened the box to see this beautiful wood painted flag.
I knew right away where I was going to hang it!
Proudly on my front porch gate.
Two years ago we built this gate for the porch so when we go out to sit a spell; the dogs can join us and I don't have to worry about tying them out. We never use this entrance so it's not a problem.

I love how unique this flag is!
Thank you so much Sara for hosting such a generous giveaway, I love this gift and will enjoy for years to come!

Since I was outside with the camera, I thought I'd take some pics of the yard to share with you.
This is my favorite spot.
I built the birdhouse a few years ago and bought the shepherd hook/flag holder this past spring at one of my favorite shops in PA.
Each year I plant one of my favorite flowers (snapdragons) around the birdhouse.
I have a total of 5 of these ornamental birdhouses in the yard and this is the first year birds have built nests in them! They really are not meant to be lived in, but who am I to deny mother nature. lol.

Pretty Peonies.

My favorite rusty, chippy white flower pot holder filled with beautiful blooms.

Porch off the side mudroom entrance.
The garden flag was a gift from our wonderful blog friend Lecia last summer. Thank you Lecia!
I used my old washtub this year to plant some wonderful strawberries and incorporate into the flower bed.
Now I don't have to worry about the rabbits or turtles getting them before me! heehee.

Sweet Annie! I just love volunteers!

And lastly our garden. To the left you can see the corn popping up, yum!
Along the backside I planted giant sunflowers~ I hope this year the winds don't take them out~ last year they grew to be 8' but the blooms didn't get to mature because we had a bad storm come threw and blew them down. in the middle and front I have pumpkins, gourds, cantaloupe and cucumbers planted. Then to the right end are the tomatoes and beans. I only plant what I know we will eat or use.

Now for my weekend finds!
This is an old rusty bed frame with the box spring build in. Once I seen the springs, I knew they'd make great  make-do's!

Can you see the age and rust?
Not sure what to do with the frame once I pull the springs off~ maybe use it in the flower bed? Any ideas?

Boy did I hit the mother load here!
Fabric has gotten so expensive; as all you sewers know; so when I find a bargain I do the happy dance!
There was a lady set up at the flea market and she had hundreds of yards of all kinds of fabric.
She told me she bought it all from an estate sale and couldn't use it all, so she is selling the excess.
My eye's went straight for the wools!
I grabbed all she had!
Navy, burgundy, charcoal, black,  taupe, and a roll of tan herringbone.
20 yds for less than a dollar a yd!

I also bought all these cotton fabrics from her.
I can see beautiful pumpkins  made from the burnt orange, stems from the green, maybe some doll dresses from the blue/white check. Who know's what may come from all this wonderful fabric!
There's a total of 15 yds of fabric for less than a dollar a yd! Can't beat that!

Just goes to show ya, you never know what you'll find at the flea market or a yard sale!

I've been working on lots of Americana and will post some pictures to share with you another day soon.
I have Sam Crows, Stars and Sheep to finish up hopefully today.
Before we know it Fall will be here, so I plan to start Fall items in the next week or so.
Boy how time flies!

Thanks for stopping by and letting me share some of my going on's with you.
Have a great day!

  11. I am drooling...from your garden to your great wool "steal" I am just sooooo green with envy. Oh I wish I had half your talent my dear. Oh byh the way...How far are you from Charlottsville ? I noticed that your blog said that you were in the Shenandoah Valley (and I am too lazy to look up your address in my records, haha). I just wondered since my son just moved down there if you knew of a good church where there are some young people (he's 22) because he doesnt know a soul in all of Virginia...I cant wait to see him next week !!!

Well...I am off to finish packing him but have enjoyed seeing all your great deals. I wish the hubs had the time to help me garden too !!!

    Grace to you,
