I’m trying to turn the plastic eggs into paper mache’ ones. So far I have 38 of them covered in paper. I picked up 5 bags of the plastic eggs at DT for of course a dollar a bag in hopes to offer paper mache eggs to my customers. So far so good! I’ll share some completed pics once I get them painted and grungied.

I also wanted to share with you some wonderful arrangements our friend Sheila over at Seasons of thy heart did.

Getting back on track~

Hi Blog Friends!

Hope you are all doing well and making the most of your days.

I’ve been trying to catch up on lost time ~ being sick for weeks as you all know; really put me behind on craft work. But I think I have my mojo back and am enjoying crafting again.

Sadly, last weeks snow event here in the valley was a fizzle.

This was all we got, so needless to say, I didn’t get to make a snowman with my kit from Teri yet.

I stayed in and worked on some Valentines items to put in my selling booth.

Here is one of my favorite Valentines I made this year.

It’s a pattern by Kentucky Primitives.

I also wanted to do some St Patty items and had a pattern for an Irishman designed by Crows in the Attic Primitives.

I wanted to do some shamrocks to offer my customers too, so I just drew out the shape and sewed some up. I love how they turned out! Just plain and simple.

Remember a few posts back, I mentioned that I wanted to come up with a different kind of prim pineapple.

Here’s what I came up with. I like how it turned out, but Mr. Prim Craft didn’t get it.

Happy Saturday Blog Friends!

Sorry I’ve not posted since New Year’s, I’ve been under the weather since Christmas day. ugh….

It’s the same crud many of you in blogland have been suffering with.

I’m starting to feel better, but still not much energy to do the much awaiting sewing I should be doing. I’ve been sitting around tracing out stacks of patterns to sew and now have lots to do, so I am hoping to get the energy level back this week to get them all done.

I recently won a giveaway hosted by Teri at White Sheep Farm. All you had to do was make her a snowflake and let her know you did. I thought that was a very creative way to host a giveaway.

Her offerings also had to do with snow~ smile.

Here’s what I found waiting in my mailbox last evening.

An oh so cute snowman and a painted wood box. But wait, what’s in the box?

The cutest snowman kit I’ve ever seen! It even has a pipe and a heart for him!

Our temps have finally turned cold here in the valley, so I suspect we’ll be getting some snow soon and will be able to make me a snowman. Can’t wait!

I have managed to get a few items I had sewn, put together.

This cute heart mouse make do~ pattern by Samantha’s Accessories. I made him on a bedspring instead of a wood bobbin. These are sure to be a hit with my customers!

How about these cuties! Pattern by Bird in the Hand Primitives. I did one the original size and one in a larger size. The larger one is a great size to display in a cupboard. I love how they turned out and Robin’s pattern was so easy to follow.

Hi Prim Friends!

Hope everyone had a great Christmas and enjoyed the day with family and friends.

We had a quiet day here. Enjoyed a yummy dinner and sat an watched tv movies all day.

On Saturday, I received a wonderful package from Deana over at Old Goat Prims. I won her sweet giveaway!

A perfectly prim prairie bonnet and prairie cloth! I’ll find a special place for them once all the Christmas deco is put away and my house gets back to normal.

I also wanted to share a pic of what I was working on just before Christmas.

This George Washington make-do turned out awesome! If I say so myself. It’s a Barefoot Primitives design. I made one for my sister in law Amy over at Bumble bee lane for Christmas. I took the pic prior to putting the finishing touch of a copy of a rolled up Constitution in his hands. He was pretty labor intense, but oh so worth it.

I also purchased the Abe make-do and will be working on him after the new year.

I’ll be taking it easy this week and enjoying the last week of 2011. Then it’s back to sewing~ gotta stock up those selling booths for my prim customers!

I just went to check the mail box ~ opened the door and there in side was a sweet little package. I wasn’t expecting any packages, so I reached in, pulled the box out and seen Parker as the return address. Well, I knew right away that it was Linda Claus! I raced to the house to see what was inside. And my oh my~ did she ever spoil me!

Yes, Linda I love cubbies and the ones you’ve sent me; I so love! Your stitching's are superb! For you to take the time out of your busy schedule and send me these gifts is overwhelming. No words can express how you made me feel when I opened the box.

I’ve already found homes for the holiday for all the pillow tucks!

Snow balls and a find:

Hi blog friends,

Well it gloomy here in VA today and I have plans to bake some cookies, but wanted to stop in and share a few things.

I received an email from Geesha who asked if I’d share a pic of my snow balls, cause she read my comment on Carmen’s blog about using newspaper as the core form for them.

So here they are!

Yep, I could not justify purchasing Styrofoam to make them, as you all know~ Styrofoam is expensive, so I thought, What about newspaper!

It works great! Just ball it up to the size you want and cover with drywall compound. I did three thin layers of the compound, with a 12 hour drying in between each layer. So give it a try, you’ll love how prim they turnout.

While out yesterday, visiting my booths, I found the neatest thing.

An old Singer pinking shears cutter! It’s in perfect shape and works! I’d never seen one and had to have it! The vendor even gave me 20% off~ gotta love a bargain.

Well, off to bake some yummies!

Artichoke and another snowman~

Thank you sweet ladies for all your comments on my previous post. I love all your words of encouragement!

Here’s the outcome of the artichoke attempt. It’s not bad, but I think I’ll keep playing with the design, then maybe offer the pattern for it. I’m also working on a pattern for a different kind of pineapple. We’ll see how it turns out!

Finished this guy up late last night.

I’m loving the way the dry brush paint on the heads look. I can see this guy holding a heart for Valentines too! Then he’d be a long winters friend.

It’s very cold here this morning, but the sun is shining and the forecast said high 40’s, whoohoo! I’m not a cold weather person, by any means. Give me sun, mid 70’s and sandy beaches and I’m a happy girl! Guess I was a beach bum in a previous life. Smiles….

Well, gotta make my rounds today~ selling booth, consignment shops, then back to working on some more snowies. Time sure if flying by!

I love how she turned out. She’s wearing her warm coat made from a very old quilt.

And I’m trying to come up with a pattern for artichokes. I have become obsessed with trying to make one from cloth. I searched the net for a pattern, but apparently there isn’t one.

Does it look anything like one? It’s sitting on the heater to dry~ we’ll see how it turns out.

Then, I’ve lived a pretty far distance from my younger sister and brother for many years now, so when we get together, at any time of the year, I cherish the time I get to spend with them making memories.

And last, ~Simplicity. To love others more, to laugh easier with our family, friends, neighbors and acquaintances. To give kindness to those we meet in public places. To give of ourselves to people in need. These are all things “money can not buy.”

These are things I practice all year long, but tend to try harder during the CHRISTmas season.

Been awhile….

Since I have made a real post.

Hi Blog Friends!

I can’t believe it’s already December!

I’ve been working pretty much non-stop for the past three months making items for my selling booth and consignment shops. I am sooooo grateful to all my customers for purchasing the items I make. It’s always been a dream of mine to make crafts and sell them to people who love them. This year has been wonderful!

Since I don’t have enough to do already, lol, starting in a week or so, I’ll be opening a new selling booth at the Courthouse Antiques Shop in Luray VA. I’m so excited to be able to expand and sell my wares to an area that I know will love the items I make. So, if your ever in Luray or New Market VA you’ll have to come and check my booths out!

This past week I took a break from making Holiday items and worked on some new offerings.

These sweet little homestead dolls are a design by Karen of Primitive Life in an English Cottage. Karen was so sweet to share her pattern with me. Thank you dear friend~ I love making these little ladies! They are completely rag stuffed and aged to perfection, although the pics don’t reflect the aging. Karen also has a selling blog~ Olde Cottage Primitives. You should stop by and see her offering.

Then I made a few of these~ Civil war soldiers journals. This is a design by Dee Duncan at pattern mart. I love how they turned out. Such an old worn feel. I hope they sell well, as I live in an old civil war town.

On Sunday I finally found some time to put my twig tree up. I’m not doing a lot of decorating this year. I’m just putting out my most favorite things and be happy with that.

These blacken wax bells and little booties I purchased from Sandy at The Country Cupboard a few months back. I love how they look.

And Amy at Bumble Bee Lane gave me these cuties for my tree. Thanks Amy!

Well that’s about it for today. This week, with the exception of today, is suppose to be pretty dreary with rain, so I’ll be working to get some orders done and maybe a few more Christmas items made.

Making progress: Lol!

It was a beautiful day here in the valley and I have been busy getting winter/Christmas items done for my selling booth. Thought you might like a peak at a couple of things completed.

Then I made up these guys to be used a cupboard/shelf tucks. I love the one with Wynter stamped down his tummy.

Happy Halloween ~ sharing

Happy Halloween!

Hi Blog Friends,

Hope yawl had a nice weekend~ stayed warm and safe. Here in the valley we received about 5” of the white stuff! Quite a few limbs from our trees came down, but nothing disastrous~ thank God. We have a couple of very mature trees next to the house, so whenever the heavy snow falls, or ice ~ I hold my breath waiting for the big crash. Lol.

Since it was so yucky out~ I’m not a snow person~ I worked on finishing up some items and thought I’d share.

All these items where made using patterns from TFC Folk Art.

Santa Stump Dolls with gingerbread boy. These guys are about 15” tall and nicely plump. I love the gingerbread boy in the sack, so I made up some to sell separate. They’d even make nice ornies for the tree.

Lg Santa Dolls. I just love how this guy turned out. I made up the tree in his belt using a heavy gauge wire wrapped with brown floral tape, and mini ming garland for the branches. I also added an old key to his belt so he is able to open all the doors he visits on Christmas eve.

Snowman Cookie Cutter Ornie. This ornie is so cute! They were a bit tedious for me to make, but turned out so nice. I made the brooms using small sticks and bought a cinnamon broom from DG and cut the twigs from the large broom to size and wrapped wire around to attach to the stick. They would make cool witch brooms too. I’ll have to stock up on some for next year!

I have so many piles of crafts waiting for my attention, it’s not funny. You see, I have this bad habit of starting one thing, then going on to another. I get bored easy, so I constantly move from one thing to another and then you get piles in all stages waiting to be finished. I know I’m not the only one who does this, right?

I have three orders I need to get done this week, then maybe I’ll finish up one of the piles patiently waiting for me. Then again maybe I’ll just make another pile~smile. Who knows what the week will bring.

Well I’m literally knee deep in getting crafts done. I have snowmen, Santa’s, and gingers everywhere!

Here’s a cutie that I have finished. Pattern from Bits of Cloth. I used flannel to make these and painted the flannel to give it a worn aged look. My flash makes it brighter than it really is. I’m really liking snowmen made of flannel instead of muslin. After it is painted you can give it a textured look, unlike muslin.

And here’s my stitchery finished~ I love how it turned out. I used cedar shavings for the stuffing and it gave it an old prim feeling. It’s a lot darker than the pic shows.

Busy, busy, busy:

Hi Blog Friends!

Sorry it’s been awhile since I’ve posted, but I really have been very busy trying to get a stock of winter items made. Time just keeps flying by and before we know it Christmas will be here.

With all the rain we’ve had I have also had to cut our grass twice a week for the last 5 weeks. Now that might not sound like a big deal, but it takes almost 3 hours out of the day to do, not that I mind, but it does cut into the crafting time.

I have been visiting my blog friends, and for some reason like a lot of you, I am having a hard time leaving comments on blogs. grrrrr. I have tried all the suggestions I’ve read but all I get is frustrated. So please know I am at least visiting.

Last Thursday, three of my friends from Maryland, Vickie, Cindy and Patsy, came to visit and we spend time going to some of the shops in my area. We went to the Woodstock Café and had the most delicious lunch. Vickie new the owner of the café, actually she and Patsy new him and reminisced about old school days. They were so thrilled to see each other. Well lunch was on the house and we even got the presidential tour of the café. I so enjoyed the day and seeing old friends. Thank you Cindy, Vickie and Patsy for a beautiful day!

Well I said I’ve been busy and truly I have been. The following are pics of crafts I’ve completed so far, but I have piles of items yet to finish.

Love these stockings! I used some of the chocolate burlap Linda from Parkers Paradise traded me awhile back and they turned out so perfectly prim.

These snowmen are from a patterns by Tennessee Ridge Primitives also.

Over the weekend I had the urge to do a stitchery, so I found this free pattern from the internet and stitched it up on aged cloth. I want to turn it into a pillow tuck. I love how it turned out. I have a blue fabric to use for the back and think it will set the stitchery off.

Happy Friday Blog Friends!

Brrrr….it’s cold! Got up this morning and the temp out side was 43 degrees! What happen to fall? It’s feeling more like winter.

Before I announce the winner’s of my giveaway, I’d like to share some random pics of my fall decorating. I don’t do a lot, but thought I’d share.

Stairway to the front porch. We built a fence rail across the opening so the fur babies could go out and enjoy the porch with us. I grew the pumpkins in my garden and purchased the wood pumpkin with crow from a local shop this year.

Wood ghosts~ made these 3 yrs ago for the yard. I enjoy seeing them in the yard each year.

This isn’t fall but it is my favorite in the yard! I made this bird house a few years ago and used old rusty tin for the roof ~ it’s now weathered to perfection!

This is the wreath I have on the front door. Couldn’t get a good pic of it, but you get the idea.

This guys on my back door. I love seeing him each year too.

My favorite pumpkins~ sitting on my Hoosier in the kitchen.

Top of the Hoosier~ see the metal pumpkin and the sunflower head drying in front. Just hope the mice don’t find it! Yep, this old farm house get mice this time of year and I hate it, but that’s a downfall with old homes.

And these girls just had to get in the post! lol. I made them this week using a pattern by Sweet Meadows Farm. I think they turned out just precious! So much personality!

Hi Blog Friends!

Boy, it seems the days just keep flying by! It’s been beautiful weather here in the valley. 80’s during the day and cool 60’s at night. The weatherman said by Friday we could see 40’s at night! I’d better go dig out my flannel pj’s! lol’.

Last weekend I drove the Rt. 340 yard crawl and was a bit disappointed. Most of the yard sales were nothing but kids toys and clothing. Nothing against that, but I was looking for good old junk!

This is all I purchased in the 25 mile journey.

Some old tin ware. Love the little horse cookie cutter and the round cylinder is Watkins baking powder. We had a nice day anyway.

I did manage to get some crafting things done too.

She generously gave away one of her rug designs printed on monks cloth. I of course love the design and purchased the wool and hook from Margie to get started on my journey in rug hooking. So when the snow starts falling this winter, I’ll be curled up on the couch trying to learn the art of hooking. Thank you Margie for the great prize and for all the time your spending in posting Tutorials for us wannabe’s.

In all the sorrow our nation has felt this 9-11; after a brief rain this Sunday evening; I stepped out on my front porch and this was the gift sent to our little corner of the world.

Not just one, but two beautifully vibrant rainbows.

I’ve seen many rainbows, but this one was so perfect ~ it started on one side of our house and ended right in front of the house; in the horse field across the street.

Hi Blog Friends!

It’s been a rainy dreary week here in the valley. Seems like the East Coast just keeps getting pounded with bad weather lately. I hope this is not any indication as to what the winter is going to be for us.

I just wanted to stop in and say a big HELLO to all my new followers! And a big THANK YOU to all my friends for posting my giveaway to their blogs. I have exceeded my goal of reaching 250 followers so, I will be drawing a second name on 9/16 for a little goodie.

I managed to get some new things done this week in between filling orders from my consignment shops. Boy these shops are keeping me busy! I truly do appreciate all the customers whom love my creativity.

Witch boots with tea light. I made bunches of these last year and they sold very well for me, as they are selling well again this year.

And I’m trying these out. Witches book of spells and potions. I made these by covering composition books with black flannel, then made the label on the computer and printed it off onto grungy muslin and glued to the front cover. I tied jute twine around and tucked some sweet annie in the twine. I also used walnut ink dye to age the outer edges of the pages. I love how they turned out, but not sure if any will sell. Guess we’ll see.

This weekend is the Rt 340 yard crawl and I ‘m hoping the sun will be shinning. I’m not selling anything this time, I’m going bargain hunting instead. I want to find things I can make over. I found a wood chair that I want to do a make-do chair out of and when I went to the landfill last week, there was a small coffee table sitting out beside the dumpster asking me to take it home and make over. LOL! These will be great projects to do once the weather gets cooler. I’ll be sure to share when they’re done.

Good morning blog friends,

I’m so please with the first day of responses on my giveaway, Thank you all! I truly love blogging and sharing my creations with all of you. I hope to be able to do a little more posting once things settle down here.

I finished this doll up yesterday and couldn’t wait to share him with you all.

This is a Sweet Meadows Farm pattern~ “Scarecrow for hire”. I changed him a bit and love how he turned out. Originally he has gloves for hands (didn’t have any gloves) and was holding a chicken and egg. I made a sunflower for him to hold instead, because around here sunflowers sell and chickens don’t. He’s a big guy and has the round ball head. I just love making the round doll heads. I thought they would be so hard to do, but I guess just like anything else, practice makes perfect!

I also finished up a few of these cuties! I made these witch hats with mice on a spring last fall and they sold very well, and so far this year anything with mice are doing well. This is my own design.

Last night I cut the sweet annie and put in tubs with the glycerin solution, so I hope that it turns out. I did grow sweet annie last year and just dried it upside down, but I did not like how it turned so yucky brown and brittle. I know prim is brown, but this was dead brown if you know what I mean. So I’m hoping for the best. Also, I think I may be allergic to this stuff as I now have a sore throat and heavy felling in my chest. I was really itchy after cutting it and went right in an showered, but I guess it was so aromatic it got to my sinuses. I did not have this problem last year when I cut it down. Then again this year I had five times as much to harvest.

Well, gotta get busy making more fall goodies, so have a great holiday weekend!

I filled an old pie pan with coco straw/grass, then glued the grungy pumpkin to the pan. I then added more coco grass to the top of the pumpkin and an old stick from my yard. The crow is glue to the pumpkin top. The three pumpkin pods are loose and can be displayed however you like.

As I stated, this is only one of the items I’m offering in my giveaway~ the rest will remain a surprise. I just love surprises!

Help, please?

Hi Blog Friends,

I am in need of some help.

I have a bunch of sweet annie growing and I'm not sure when to cut and dry it.

I have read some articles off the web about sweet annie but not sure when to havest.

Below are some pictures of what mine looks like right now and think it may be ready, but not sure.

So, what do you think? I'd appreciate some help if you know when to harvest.

I have been looking for glycerine to use in drying and have had no luck. Michael's, Jo anne's, and Ben Franklin don't carry it around here, so I guess I'll be drying it the old fashion way and hope for the best.

I am so grateful to have such sweet friends here in blog land. I was so touched to receive so many concerns and comments about the earthquake. Thank you all! My cup runneth over.

It's looking like Hurricane Irene is forecasted to come inland on the East Coast this weekend and I hope and pray that it dies down to a tropical storm and not the category 4 they predict. Please heed all the precautions being given on this storm. Better to be safe than sorry ;o)

I'm still working to get my stock pile built back up of fall crafts and wanted to let you all know I will be announcing my giveaway on September 1st.

Did you feel that!!

We just had an Earthquack here in Virginia.

It was said to be a 5.8 ~ shook the house something terrible but all is well.

Pictures fallen, dishes rattled, floor rumbled~ very scary for about 5 - 10 seconds.

I have not experienced an earthquack since I was 9 yrs old living in Maryland.

Still a bit scared from this, but am okay.

Good Monday All,

First I want to send a big Thank You to Linda over at Parker’s Paradise. Sweet Linda emailed me a few weeks back, asking if I’d do a swap with her for some chocolate burlap. She seen my candy corn with mice and wanted one. Of course I love fabric and burlap is always a needed item this time of year, so off the corn and mice went.

Well, Linda did not only send a whole bolt of chocolate burlap but a whole box of goodies!

Just look at all these goodies! I love it all! I love Americana and the Sweet Land Of Liberty pillow is a wonderful addition to my collection and Linda’s little shoe pinkeep~ LOVE IT!

Linda sent some little bird nests~ a whole bag of threads~ a beautiful cubby with drawer and pantry cake~ and the fall theme wall box~ Love, love love!

Can’t wait to use some of this burlap! I see scarecrow hats and bears in my future.

First I have to apologize. I asked my sister to remind me to take some pics of the yard crawl and of course we both forgot!

The Rt. 11 Yard Crawl was such a success! Usually, this is a one day event, but this year there were so many people setting up on Friday I decided to do the same. Both days I had a steady stream of people come to buy my creations. I met so many wonderful people, Thank you to all! I am blessed to have such wonderful customers. I’d like to send a special Thank you out to Carolyn and Faye~ two faithful friends that have come to see me each year at the crawl. I’m looking forward to next year.

I said I didn’t get any pics of the actual crawl, but on Saturday afternoon about 4:30 the skies started getting ominous looking and a few customers had told me there was a bad storm in the area that in fact the storm had just come through Woodstock VA and took some roofs off of some of the building there. So my sister and I decided we better start getting thing packed up. Thank God we did. The storm came through just as we had put the last box in the house and boy was it bad.

Straight line winds, torrential down pours of rain for about 15 minutes! We watched out the window as this storm came through and a lot of the other vendors had not gotten there items packed or there tents down in time.

Of course then I remembered the camera!

I could not believe people were actually standing out in these straight line winds trying to hold their tents down! Thank God no one was seriously injured. There was quite a bit of damage to the tents and glassware. People pitched together to try and salvage what they could and cleaned up the aftermath. All I can say is it’s a good thing to heed the warnings when you see the skies blacken and others telling you there is a bad storm in the area.

Sunday morning we walked out to see if there were any goodies left in any of the pile of garbage left behind and I found this picture with the frame and glass in tacked. I love the picture and wish it had not gotten soaked by the rains. I’m gonna try to salvage it, but if not the frame can be used elsewhere.

Look at these darling little dresses! I just had to purchase them at the sale. The top one is my favorite! There all vintage~ the three in the middle are christening gowns.

I got all this fabric for $7! They range in length from 2 yds to 7 yds. What a deal!

Well, that was my weekend~ it was a lot of work but a big success!

Hi Blog Friends,

It’s been very busy here at Prim Crafts, getting ready for the

Rt. 11 Yard Crawl.

Every year on the second Saturday in August there’s a 50+ mile yard sale in the Shenandoah Valley that runs down Route 11. This will be my 3rd year setting up in front of my house selling all my hand made items. Thousands of people flock to this event! I have the fortune of being next to a place that has 200 vendors setting up for this crawl. It’s so much fun and I love having customers that come just to see what I have to offer. I am so grateful for this. I’ve received quite a few emails asking if I’ll be set up again this year, YES, I wouldn't miss it for the world!

My sister and niece are coming to stay for the weekend too. She’s bringing a truck load of households to sell. My niece, Megan wants to set up a lemonade stand. I think that’s so sweet!

I just pray the weather will be nice Saturday.

I have quite a few other items I want to get done, but not sure I will. It really is a lot of work to set up and prepare for a show. I use to do shows several years ago and stopped because I got more lookers than buyers. I only do this Yard crawl because there are so many wonderful people that I have come to know ~ only by faces, but enjoy seeing and they seem to buy.

While I was working on Halloween items, I wanted a simple witch face bowl filler and did not have any patterns for one.

So, I drew one out myself and am pleased with how they turned out.

More pumpkins made:

Good Monday to y’all,

Hope you had a great weekend!

Friday I told you I was going junkin. Well I hit a couple of yard sales, stopped at a few thrift shops and notta! Nothing said take me home. Oh well, I had a good time getting out and about anyway.

So I came home and made some more pumpkins.

These sweet primitive folk art pumpkin dolls are a design by Sweetpea Primitives. The pattern is in one of the Mercantile Gatherings issues. They would look so sweet sitting amongst a fall display. I rag stuffed her body to give her a weighted feel, and used tiny thin twigs wired together for her arms. I don’t have any sweet annie yet, so I went to the corn field and picked the dried tassels from the top of the corn stalks and tucked them in the front bow. Very prim looking.

I love these pumpkin guys with crows! This is another pattern by Kentucky Primitives. His pumpkin body is rag and polyfil stuffed to give him a lumpy feel. I used shredded coco liner for his hair and honeysuckle for his arms. I did not like the stick legs suggested in the pattern so I made legs from muslin and stained them green. I think he’s easier to display and won’t scratch any surfaces with his legs.

Here’s my version of witch boots. I made many of these last year and sold very well. Hoping there a hit again this year.

And I finally made the flag bowl fillers Melissa!

Melissa, from Libbie’s Home blogspot gave away some of her flag prints and I was one of the lucky people to receive two of them. I told her I would use them to make me a flag bowl filler~ I love them! Thank you so much Melissa!

Last night I started tracing out a bunch of bowl fillers and fall dolls, so that’s what I’ll be up to this week.

I’m thinking it’s about time for another Prim Craft giveaway, so be on the lookout for that announcement! It’s going to be a fall theme. Not sure what it’ll be and I may even keep it a secret! Lol.

Well I told you I’d share pics of the scarecrow I was working on so……

My pics really suck! ~ but he is so neat in person. His burlap coat is really grungy and worn looking and each pocket is filled with excelsior grass along with the crow. I love how he turned out!

Got lots of new things to work on, but today I think I will get out and do some junkin’ this morning! Maybe a thrift store or two and some yard sales!

Well it’s still hot here in my neck of the woods, but the humidity has let up for now. Hope you all are staying nice and cool with all this heat.

I want to thank all my wonderful friends that commented on my last post. I love hearing from you and the fact that you all feel the same way about posting and commenting puts my mind at ease.

These are patterns by Olde Homestead Barn. I love how they turned out! They are large pieces, great as a window display or to sit on a tabletop at an entry way to greet guests.

I’m so in love with this next pattern by Kentucky Primitives.

The candy corn are burlap with mice coming thru them! I wish my pictures where better~ they look so awesome in person.

These are patterns by My Primitive Saltbox. I made these last year for my selling booth and sold them faster than I could make them!

I still have quite a few things to finish up and hope to move onto some new crafts by the end of the week. I don’t know about you all but I get bored doing the same things all the time. I have many irons in the stove and piles of things waiting to be completed.

Oh, and what’s up with blogger? I read all my followings in Google Reader and have noticed that some of the blogs I follow are no longer showing up on there. Gggrrrrr. I checked my followings page in blogger and your all still there, but Google doesn’t show them. Does anyone else have this problem? And I really wish Google Reader would make it easier for us to comment on blogs thru the reader page without having to load the blog completely. That would make blogging so much better for all of us, don’t ya think?

Overdue Thank you and back to crafting:

Good morning Blog Friends,

All I can say is it is HOT!! The next three days are suppose to be record temps of over 100 here in the valley and then add the heat index on top of that. Whooeeee…..

I feel sorry for most of the people in my area, because they are mostly plant workers and there is no air conditioning in the actual plant were the machines are. My sweetie is a mechanic for one of these plants and has come home each day this week with heat exhaustion.

I hope all of you are staying cool and trying to beat this heat wave.

I’d like to send a big Thank you out to Willa from The Old Cupboard Door for the wonderful painted cutting board I received from her giveaway.

It’s absolutely gorgeous! Willa paints the most beautiful scenes. The detail in this painting is beautiful. My picture does it no justice!

Again, Thank you Willa! I love and cherish it!

Willa was telling me she may close her blog, due to her full time job and not having the time to paint and post. I told her she would be missed by all of us and that she could just post when she could~ so stop by Willa’s blog and encourage her to keep her blog open and post when she has the chance.

I know many bloggers have given up on blogging due to life happening or they feel they don’t receive many or no comments on there posts. I don’t know of any rule that says you have to post all the time or that commenting is a must. I love seeing what is happening in other parts of the world and don’t always have time to comment on blogs I follow. Especially if that blog has a lot of bells and whistles in it to upload. (My system is on dialup so it takes awhile to get things uploaded. Call it cheap but in this day of money crunching I need to pinch as many pennies as possible.) I just want to encourage all who have a blog and love to post “when they can” to do so and not feel as if that is just one more chore they have on there plate or that they have let anyone in blog land down for not posting. Just my feeling on the matter.

I took a short but much needed break from crafting these past few weeks, but I’m now starting on my fall crafting and getting back into the swing of things. I guess I was just burnt out~I’m sure a lot of you know what that’s like!

So, here we have some pics of what I’ve been working on this week. Nothing completed yet, but lots of orange, black and white parts! lol.

Hhhmmm, wonder what they will look like once put together?

Spent yesterday painting all these goodies, letting them dry out in the hot sun. It only took 5 to 10 minutes for them to completely dry!

Today I have lots of sanding and grunging to do ~ then putting them all together! That’s the fun part!

I’ll be sure to show the finished products once they’re completed.

Good morning blog friends,

Hope you all had a nice weekend!

The weather here in the valley is suppose to be much nicer this week. We had a few bad storms come through last evening, the rain came down in sheets. People on the road were having to pull over because you just could not see ahead of you. It beat our corn in the garden pretty good, so I hope it will perk back up today.

We went to PA this past weekend and boy I wish I had stayed home. We have a commercial property there that Larry likes to go check on at least once a month. Well, I decided to go with him this time. There is a room off the side of the building where we have a bed and bathroom to stay in when we go up. It’s not fancy or anything but at least a roof over your head. Well, when we got there, I went in the room and seen all these bugs climbing on the walls, floor, window….everywhere! They were STINK BUGS!!! They look prehistoric and gross…to say the least. At first I flipped out, not wanting to stay ~ but with two dogs, I could not get a motel room. So I spent most of my time vacuuming these nasty things up. Nothing kills them! And if you squash them OMG they stink! I am so thankful to be home and not have to deal with these bugs here in my home. I hope all of you out there don’t have to deal with them either.

When we got back Sunday, there was a package waiting for me from Robin over at Millstone Mercantile. I won her 300 post giveaway! Woohoo! I could not wait to open her package and stopped unloading the car, so I forgot to take pics of the package and all the wrappings.

Robin is so sweet and such a talented lady! Just look at all the hand made goodies she sent! I am so in love with all of them.

Look at these beautiful fabric covered journals and that awesome metal crow pin! She even made the card with the sheep, the grungy tea candles and the colonial soldier pinkeep. Love ‘em!

I was so hoping she would send me one of her prim banners she’d been making for her shop and boy did she ever! She sent two banners and a table scarf! Just look at this Primitive Collector table scarf~ so prim perfect!

This is on the opposite side of the scarf.

Look at these banners! Prim perfect and so appropriate for my prim farmhouse! The Welcome to our olde country porch one is going on a grapevine and being hung on my front porch. And the Bless this olde homestead one is going in my kitchen.

In a previous post I told you I was meeting with my friend Lecia from Farmhouse Prims. She asked me to make her one of the standing prairie dolls from a pattern by Sweet Meadows Farm.

Well we had a wonderful time, chatting about our love of prims, and having lunch. Did you know Lecia is a hair dresser! Well she is and she did a nice job trimming my hair and styling it. Thank you Lecia, my hair feels so much better and looks great!

I couldn’t just make her the standing doll as the pattern is called Prairie Sisters, so I made her one of each! Pop over to Lecia’s blog to see a pic of her sweet prairie sisters.

Boy time flies.

Hi Blog Friends,

Gonna be another hot day here in the valley, as I’m sure most of you are experiencing the same high temps.

Grass cutting and weeding the garden has kept me pretty busy, but I’ve been able to get some crafting in also.

Monday evening I had let my little snooper out to do his business for the night and about five minutes after being out, he started barking non stop ~ so I went out to get him so the neighbors wouldn’t complain and this is what he was barking at!

Do you see them?

Across the road from me is a small farmette with two beautiful horses that roam in this fenced field. But to my surprise two beautiful deer got in with the horses and were grazing.

Cars were going by and looking at the beautiful sight too. Then a motorcycle came and spooked them all and the deer ran up into the back field. This was the first time I’d ever seen anything like this.

This was a great find I bought at the flea market this past weekend.

An old slant top lap desk. I paid $1.00 for it!

Look at the inside!

Love the vintage cloth lining and the old paper was in it too. Pretty cool and the color on the exterior is a gray chippy paint. I’m not sure what I’ll do with it yet, but for the price I couldn’t resist.

I can’t wait for Lecia to see this doll, as I think she turned out beautiful! Sorry you’ll have to wait til Lecia posts her on her blog. I don’t want to spoil the surprise of her seeing her. Lecia does know I made her one though. We’re going to lunch afterwards and I’m so excited to meet up with her again.

I’m gonna make a few prairie dolls to sell so I’ll be working on more of the dolls this week and I also have a bunch of fall things I’m working on.

Yard sale finds and finished crafts:

Hi Blog Friends,

Hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful weekend weather. At least here in the valley it sunny, warm and beautiful.

I went out in search of some yard sales this morning and by gosh there were quite a few to be found.

I must have stopped at 25 of them but only bought from two places. Either people had mostly clothing or they wanted to much for their junk.

Here’s some of my loot!

Nice blue basket for a quarter, but I’m going to stain it to tone down the robin egg blue color. 2 cutting boards for 50 cents to make into wall hangings, 3 small pans for 75 cents to craft with, a really nice glass jar with wood lid for 50 cents~ I’ve been looking for one to do as a pantry jar for my fur baby treats. (See my beautiful peonies in the back ground?)

Then I ran into these. The top one I bought first at a sale and paid $5 for it ~ all rusty and prim. I wanted it to put my twig Christmas tree in.

Then at another yard sale I found this one for only 50 cents! It’s in great condition and I just could not pass it up. Now I’m not sure which one I want to keep. heehee.

I also found this really nice hand hooked rug for only 50 cents! I thought it would look nice as a pillow. When I bought it I did not realize the deer antlers spelled out welcome, but it’s still cute. Someone put a lot of time in making it.

I also got a nice little foot stool to redo, but I left it in the garage so no pic of it. So that was my junking adventure for this weekend.

Here’s the farmer cat finished up. I love making these. They turn out so prim and the mice are so realistic. The patterns by Kentucky Primitives.

This is a quick and easy pattern by Chestnut Junction. Love how this Uncle Sam shelf sitter turned out.

And this Uncle Sam doll is prim and plump. The pattern is from one of my old craft magazines and I rag stuffed his body to make him feel old.

So that’s all I’ve been up to, besides cutting grass and enjoying the sun shine for a change.

Surprises in the mail and some finishes, well almost….

Hi Blog Friends,

It’s really yucky here this morning. Dark clouds, rumbles of thunder in the distance and a calm in the air. Kind of eerie. I keep watching the barometer to see if I need to go hide somewhere.lol. Really, I hate storms and get very scared of them, especially when by my self.

I want to get this post done before the storms really hit.

Yesterday I received two packages in the mail from two sweet bloggers.

This sweet package is from Becky Jean over at Primitives N Stitchin.

Becky hosted a giveaway and was sweet enough to draw three winners. I was one of the lucky gals to win one of her little sewing pocket dollies. I just love her! She is so perfectly prim and the craftsmanship is just wonderful. Becky, thank you so much for this sweet dolly! She will be well loved for many years to come. Go pay Becky a visit, yesterday was her and hubbies 24th anniversary! Happy Anniversary!

This package is from Linda over at Parker’s Paradise.

Last week, Linda emailed me asking about the little prairie dolls I made that were an experiment I was working on. She fell in love with them, so I decided to just send them to her, but she said I might get a package in the mail from her too. Well I certainly did not expect anything and when I seen this big box in my mail box, I just could not imagine what was inside.

Just look at all these goodies! I was like a little kid at Christmas. The items just kept coming.

Wonderfully prim wood spoons of all shapes and sizes! Love em’! I’ll be putting them in a crock I have. A prim Wisk broom ~ I have been wanting one ~now I have it!

This wooden plate/bowl holder, perfect for a bowl I have! This prim perfect candle shelf, Love it! And the band box under it~ perfect addition to my Americana collection.

Ditty bags! Love em’!

And certainly not least these dish/hand towels. If your like me you can always use them.

Linda, you are such a sweetie! Thank you so much for all the goodies you sent. You make me smile! I certainly was the one who was spoiled in this deal! Go on over to Linda’s blog an check out her display chain for today.

Remember the pile of items I have to finish in a previous post, well here they are almost done.

Prairie doll bag holders designed by The Olde Country Cupboard. They’ll each hold a chicken. These are so easy to sew up and love how they look.

A couple of prairie dolls also designed by The Olde Country Cupboard. They still need the stars finished and put in their hands.

These extreme prim dolls are from a pattern by Threadbare Primitives. I still have the stars on a stick to finish and add. They look much better in person, I may have to keep one of them for myself.

I still have the farm cats to finish and will show some pics once there complete. Oh, and I purchased a few new patterns from various artist on The pattern cupboard ~ there are lots of sale patterns on there right now.

PAFA giveaway win and what I’m working on.

Good Monday blog friends,

I hope everyone had a nice weekend. It was pretty nice weather wise here in the valley. Sun/clouds during the day and rain in the nights.

My sister and niece came for a visit for the weekend. It was very nice. On Saturday we went to Luray for the spring festival. There was a nice selection of vendors set up, but it seems food vendors and jewelry vendors out weigh all else. There were a few primitive vendors, but most of the items they offered where not hand made! We did go into some of the shops along the main street and I did find something I had been looking for.

A child's old slate. It’s in very nice condition and the old cloth edging is still in good condition. I have seen these in antique shops for as much as $20, but this one I only paid $5 for it. That’s all I purchased at the show.

I was a winner over at The PAFA Etsy Team giveaway. I won this beautiful hand painted picture done by Barb of Barb’s Heartstrokes.

Here is how I decided to display it for now, but I may be changing my whole living room around we’ll see.

I want to send a BIG Thank You to Barb as well as all the talented artists at PAFA for hosting and donating all the wonderful hand mades for their giveaway. I had so much fun seeing all the offerings and who won these generous giveaways.

Finished wood crafts:

Good Friday blog friends,

It’s rainy and dreary here in the valley this morning. I guess we can’t complain though, it was sunny and warm all this week; so I was able to get to work with some wood for a change.

I finished the wood crafts and said I’d share with you when they were done.

So here they are!

Black prim wall box. Perfect for the wall or door.

Prim towel holder. Love how this turned out! Perfect for any prim necessary room. Inspired from a picture at Sawdusty’s Cabin.

Prim candle board/paddle. Love how theses turned out too! The pattern for this is from Kerri at The Calico Rabbit. I put jute twine in the handle so I can hang them in my booth, but it can be removed.

Well, gotta get ‘em in my booth for the weekend sales! We’re having the annual civil war re-enactment this weekend so lots of people in town.

A make-over

Hi blog friends,

Thought I’d share with you what I’ve been working on this week.

I have this table in my kitchen.

I wanted to either replace or re-do it and since times are tough with not a lot of extra moolaa. I thought I’d just re-do it. The table itself is nice and sturdy. Well made hard wood. I have been coving this table with a vinyl table cloth for 4 yrs now and am tired of doing that. See the wood surface is worn and the stain on top is yucky. Not very prim.

So, I took it out to the patio; got my sander and paper and went to town on it! I sanded the finish off the top and scuffed the legs to show some bare wood. Then used Early American stain and went over the whole thing.

Now the top is an even color stain and looks more prim to my taste. Now I need to do something with the chairs! Maybe paint, but I don’t think Larry will let me do that. I’d like to have a few ladder backs, and found some at an auction a few weeks back that were perfect, but at auction they went for $125 each! Ouch! We have quite a few chairs in storage so I’ll have to go rummage through and see if I have some that will do. If not, I will just paint the ones in the pic while Larry’s at work! ssshhh, don’t tell him I said that.lol.

I’ve also been working on some wood things for my selling booth. I’ll try to get pics and share later.

Finished em’ up…

Just wanted to show ya I finished the pile of crafts finally.

Remember these in a previous post?

Here’s the chickens all done! I had made one for Sandy when we did our swap last month and loved how it turned out so I made some to put in my selling booth and consignment shop.

Star bowl fillers all grungied up.

Love this sweet little Liberty Mouse! It was a free newsletter pattern from Kim at Old Road Primitives blog. It pays to sign up for newsletters cause ya never know when you’ll get something for free!

Then I seen on Tam’s blog ~A Primitive Place~ where she had made the cutest burlap bear. I have wanted one ever since I seen it, so I tried making me one and think he turned out really cute! He’s only 5” tall when sitting and I jointed his arms and legs. I left his foot pads raw edge out and added a few black stitches here and there. I still like Tam’s better, but this one will do for me.

Yesterday I took a bunch of my crafts over to the new shop in Stanley. The name of the shop is LG Primitives. They don’t have a website but it is on Facebook. Click the link to see pics Lory~ the owner~ has posted of the shop. I’m excited to see how my crafts will do there.

Last night I cut and traced a big pile of things to work on this week and hopefully get done. I found a pattern in one of my old Market Place books for an Uncle Sam doll, so its in the pile.

I also need to get outside and work in the garden and cut the grass again due to all the rain we’ve had the garden is slow in being put in and the grass grows overnight! Come July I’m sure I’ll be wishing for rain so I guess I shouldn’t complain to much now.

I want to wish all my followers a Happy Mother’s Day. Use the day to slow down and just enjoy your family.

Sharing some things I’ve been working on….

Good morning Blog Friends,

I promised I’d share some pics of the crafts I have been working on, so here they are.

Primitive Cat ~Oswald~ pattern by Olde Homestead Barn . This was such an easy, fun pattern to make. I love how he turned out! Perfect for Summer and Americana.

Sam the crow pattern also by Olde Homestead Barn . My boyfriend said ~he’s so ugly he’s cute! Well I love how this old crow turned out. He’s much grungier than the pic shows, I guess the flash makes it look none grungy. He even has rusty bells for his eyes!

Prim Lil Bee Skep~ pattern by Sassafras Hill Primitives. I love how these turned out! Again, they are more prim in person. The bees alone would make great bowl fillers. This is a great pattern for summer.

Making lots of star bowl fillers too. These sold very well last year and seem to sell all year long. They just get a little boring after awhile to make. I’m sure you all have items like that too.

Prairie doll tucks. I was at a shop a few weeks back with my sil Amy and seen a prairie doll that was made on a soda bottle and wanted to try making one for myself. Well so far I have not liked how it turned out so I used the bodies and made these tucks. I love how they turned out. I’m still working on getting the one on a bottle made to my liking.

Working on some Peahens ~ this is an old pattern from Barbara Stein that was published in the 2006 Country Marketplace magazine. They were originally to be made as make do’s but I like them as shelf sitters. Just need to finish them up!

I also have this pile of items to get finished. Sheep tucks, mice, and chickens, oh my! Sorry couldn’t resist.lol.

And finally a bag full of my sunflowers, waiting to be grungy. These also sell very well for me. The pattern is on my blog sidebar for free if you’d like to make some.

I have purchase quite a few new patterns from various designers and want to get started on them, but I should finish these up first. I have a bad habit of starting different things and stopping to make something else. I don’t know why it’s hard for me to stick to one craft and complete it before starting on another. I guess it’s the monotony of it all.

Well, that’s all I have to share for now. Gotta get these things done so I can move on to something new. At least I hope.lol.

First, I want to thank all of you for leaving such sweet comments on my blog. I love hearing from all of you and cherish you dearly. I wish I could afford to send each of you one of these sweet birdies, but that’s just not possible.

I did this giveaway the old fashion way. I had 32 comments and all but one used my name in their comment to get a second chance. So I printed out all the comments times 2 and cut into strips. I folded and put them all in a prim bowl and drew the winner.

Never seen anything like it!

There’s Blue Jays in the front tree making a ruckus and I went to the door to see what all the commotion was and just look at this!

Do you see it?

The biggest darn squirrel I ever seen. He’s I guess trying to get to the Blue Jay nest in the tree. See the Jay’s on the branch? There are two of them trying to attack the squirrel. I went out to try and scare it away and the thing looked at me like he could kill me. I backed up got in the house and shut the door. The second picture is from the window thru the screen. not opening it either.

Never seen anything like it!

What a morning…..

Hi blog friends,

I sure hope everyone is safe this morning.

Sending prayers to all the people down south whom have endured these horrible storms.

The nasty storms came through Northern VA starting at 3:30 am this morning and I flew out of bed in fear. I was home alone by that time, because my boyfriend leaves for work at 2:30. At about 4:15am the winds got intense and I could hear the sound of a train coming. The house actually moaned! This 100+ year old farm house has withstood many storms and this one couldn’t get it either. A few miles from me in Bayse they’re reporting 4 large chicken houses were leveled. No reports of people being hurt, but I feel bad for the poor animals in them.

I don’t know who peeved Mother Nature off but I wish they would apologize so all this nasty weather would stop!

It’s calm here for the time being, but they are still forecasting more bad stuff later today.

Please be safe and seek shelter if these storms come your way. They truly are horrible!!

Swap goodies from Sandy:

Good morning blog friends,

I had signed up for a swap over at Samantha’s Accessories and was partnered with Sandy from The Olde Country Cupboard. Sandy is such a sweet and talented lady. Just look at the goodies she sent!

A wonderful jar lamp Sandy put together and placed the Dry Goods label on. I love it! She makes these awesome feed sack pillows~ it’s filled with cedar chips! Love it too!

Sandy sent me two of these sleeping sheep ~ made of grungy wax.

Sandy and Samantha make the most wonderful tart candles. Each one smells soooooo goooood! I think my favorite is the Amish Quilt scent ~but really love them all.

Sandy also sent me this wonderful prim bowl with grungy eggs she purchased off the net.

Thank you Sandy for all the wonderful goodies! I had so much fun making goodies for this swap ~ I hope she likes the things I sent her~ they should get to her Monday.

I also want to thank Samantha for hosting the swap! I can’t wait to see what the other participants get from their partners.

My neighbor asked me to make a stitchery for her from a picture she found in a magazine so I thought I’d share a picture of what I did with you.

I stitched this design on flour sack material that has been heavily coffee stained. I used wool felt for the flowers and leaves. My neighbors husband is going to make the frame for it. I love how it turned out ~ it’s been a long time since I actually stitched something this big, measures 24” X 18”, but I guess it’s like riding a bike, you never forget how.

Spring has sprung

It’s a nasty cold, windy, rainy morning here in the valley. A great day to stay in and get some crafting done.

Thursday I spent 5 hours working out in the yard mowing, raking and picking up sticks and branches. After I was done, I thought I’d take a few pictures of the spring flowers and trees at my home.

Weekend trip

Hi Blog friends,

This spring weather sure is unusual this year. The weekend was cool, cloudy and little rain. Then Monday sunny with high of 82, but really breezy. This morning it’s cool 50’s and rainy.

This past weekend we got to go to PA for a few days and I was so excited ~ I spent Saturday visiting some of my favorite shops in Lancaster. Really there are 2 prim shops that are a must for anyone who goes to Lancaster. They are off the beaten path but worth the hunt.

First is the Olde Mill House Shoppes located on Strasburg Pike.

It’s a beautiful 19th Century Mill with barn. It’s filled to the brim with wonderful furniture, accents and accessories for the home. Click on the name above to go check out there website, but it’s nothing like visiting this shop in person.

The second must visit is Country Creations. It’s a 100 yr. old dairy barn filled full of furniture, floral, quilts and so much more!

I purchased this Betsy Ross flag for $10.00 on sale at Country Creations.

Then I went down Rt. 30 to two other favorites of mine. Jake’s Country Trading Post where I found a beautiful hooked chair pad that I’m going to either turn into a stool pad or a wall hanging.

I also picked up some little goodies to go in my swap package I signed up for with Samantha at Samantha’s Accessories. So I can’t show ya them.

Then I stopped by In Grandma’s Attic on 30. It was chocked full of Easter and Spring goodies. Picked up a few goodies here to.

How cute is this hand sculpted paper Mache crow with pineapple! I just had to have him. I was told by the shop owner it was made by Deb Long in New Jersey.

This bunny was only $2.00 so he had to come home with me too!

Then I headed on to Quarryville and had to stop at my favorite store for fabrics. The store is called Good’s Store and it’s run by Mennonites. I love there fabric dept.

I got different ticking's, high grade cheese cloth and some bells to rust.

Then I stopped at another place in Quarryville called The Storekeepers House. I couldn’t leave without bringing this little cutie home with me.

That’s my trip to Lancaster, so if you get to visit Lancaster this summer or anytime, take time to visit these shops ~ at least the first two. They are well worth a look.

I did manage to get all the dolls done last week. Remember the picks with all the bald heads! lol.

I love how this sweet garden angel turned out. It’s my own design and she is quite big at 16” tall. Look at the little birdies!

Well as I said I signed up for a swap and was partnered with Samantha’s mom Sandy over at The Old Country Cupboard. I’m excited to swap with Sandy. I have some things in the works to get done this week, so I better get busy!

She makes beautiful rolling pin covers ~ this is perfect for my kitchen. She even sent the rolling pin!

She also makes as well as collects game boards. I love it!

And look at this hand towel ~ sheep and pineapples! I have been collecting sheep and pineapples for awhile now and this will go so nicely with them. Can’t wait til Easters over so I can change my décor around and incorporate all these goodies!!

Finished a few things over the weekend

Hi Blog Friends,

It’s such a nice day here in the valley. Sunny skies and warm breezes. I’ve got all the windows and doors open.

Before I go out to work in the garden I wanted to share a few things I finished this weekend.

Bee’s, skeps and daisy’s. I love how they turned out.

Then I seen these on the net and got the pattern from Nanny Norton Prims. Civil War Slave Dolls. I used clean rag stuffing and they feel so prim and time worn. I bet they’d be really neat stuffed with sawdust too. I’ll have to remember to save my sawdust when I start my woodworking projects.

I have all these cuties to finish up this week.

They are all patterns from Sweet Meadows Farm.

Don’t they look ~~funny~~ Cute with there bald heads.

Gotta get out side and enjoy the afternoon. Hope you can enjoy some of this nice weather too.

Boy this one was even harder than last week and I’m not sure if what I have will pass. Hope Misi accepts them, cause I want to go to the final hunt. I’m having loads of fun trying to find or figure out where I can get these items.

I’ve displayed 5 of the 7 items on the list.

Crow on a stick – I made last year from wood. Old funnels, I have two displayed, putz sheep or like – I have a wooly sheep with stick legs handmade, and a tale sheep Americana with stick legs I made last year. An old King syrup can and a Vermont Maple syrup can. A Betsy Ross silhouette round box.

The only old stool/ bench I have is this 50+ yr. old Dutch hand painted bench I bought about 18 yrs. ago. I truly cherish it and promised the previous owner I would take good care of it.

The top reads Home is where the heart is. How true this statement is.

Pleasant Surprises….

Good morning blog friends,

It’s a pretty chilly here in the valley again this morning. We had about an inch of snow on Sunday but it did not stay around long. There’s a possibility of some flurries again tomorrow. I wonder when Spring will actually come and stay for awhile. My poor tulips and daffodils don’t have a chance with all this cold air.

Last Friday I had a very pleasant surprise. It was late afternoon and I went out the side door of my house to go check the mail and there was a gift bag hanging on my door knob.

I knew immediately who it was from but wondered why I did not here her stop by. Well, Lecia from Farmhouse Prims had stopped by and left me a little gift on her way home from grocery shopping.

I had commented on her blog about wanting to do a swap with her for one of her prairie stump dolls – In stead she made me one and surprised me by leaving it on my door. I absolutely love her! Lecia does such a great job with all the items she makes. If you’ve never stopped by Lecia’s blog at Farmhouse Prims, go on over an visit her. Thank you my prim friend, I love my prairie stump doll!

Then yesterday I went to the mailbox and found another sweet surprise.

I had entered Wendy’s Basil bunny contest over at Ravenwood Whimzies and was the winner!

Look at all the goodies! Wendy sure made this giveaway fun and so special! Look at the rabbit! I love her!

And all the goodies she included!

Not only the sweet bunny she made, but all this! A beautiful hand towel with sunflowers and crows, love it! A bar of Lavender soap that smells so good, along with a lavender sachet, I already have in my drawer=), a package of monogram note cards with J on them, a package of morning glory seeds, I can’t wait to plant! Four beautiful Easter tags, handmade by Wendy-love them! A metal sign reading Easter Blessings and Reese's Pieces – yummy! Ate half the bag before dinner. Heehee.

Here’s a neat tip I learned from Traci over at York Mountain Mercantile. She showed how you can get prim grass for pennies!

I went to the Dollar General and picked up two coco replacement baskets. They were $1.00 each. All you do is pull it apart and fluff a little and Walla! you have prim grass! I was at my Ben Franklin store and seen a package of what they called prim grass- which was straw from the farmers field with a price of $9.95 on it, and truthfully, this looks better than that stuff would have. Thank you Traci for sharing this wonderful tip!

That’s all I have to share for know. I gotta go find the items for hunt #3 over at Misi’s 1890 Gable House Musing . Boy is this hard! Don’t know if I’ll make it past this list. I really hope I do, gonna have to brave the cold and go digging in my storage shed again. lol.

Scavenger Hunt #2 finds:

Misi over at 1890 Gable House Musing has come up with a 2nd list of goodies for us to find and post for her scavenger hunt and I must say this one is quite the challenge.

There are 7 items listed this week and we must find at least 4 of them to continue to week three.

The list:

A Childs Chair -
blue willow china (1 piece) -
Tin or metal tree -
Wooden toy boat -
Corn Dryer -
Colonial print (must have both a boy & girl) -
Wooden buggy yoke -

For some of these items I had to dig high and low in my storage shed to find =) I moved almost 4 yrs. ago to VA and the farmhouse I live in has rather small rooms, so I am not able to put out a lot of my treasures and I am not ready to let go of them so I keep them in my storage shed in hopes that some day I can move to a bigger house and be able to display and enjoy them.

Here’s what I found, I hope it gets me to the next round, fingers crossed =)

Childs chair – Blue willow china – Colonial print with boy and girl.

Tin or metal tree. My favorite is the pic on the right. I use it at Christmas to display my glass ornies.

Wooden toy boat. I love Noah’s Ark and have quite a collection of it. These are just two of the wood boats I own.

I have shown 5 of the 7 items for list #2. It’s up to Misi to accept these items in order to go to the next round. I really hope these are acceptable, I’m having so much fun trying to find the scavenger hunt items in my storage shed and I get to see items I have not seen in a long time.

Been crafting…. gardens about ready

Hi Blog Friends,

Happy Spring to you all!

This past weekend was nice and sunny here in VA, but the temps were a bit on the cool side.

I've been wanting to plant a small veggie garden for a few years now, and with the price of veggies going up (green peppers at Wal-Mart are at $1.44 each!) I’m finally getting my way. Usually all I do is buy a couple of tomato plants and stick’em in a pot on the patio. We spent most of the weekend working out in the yard getting the area for my garden tilled and ready for the planting season. I also bought some packets of seeds and a seed starter greenhouse and sowed the seeds for starting in doors. Now I’m not a farmer or much of a veggie grower, I do love to plant flower gardens and watch them grow, so this will be an adventure seeing if my garden will grow or produce the fruits of my labor.lol.

I did manage to get some crafts done this past week.

Basket with Prim Paper Mache eggs and a grungy lite. Looks like a large nest of eggs. Much nicer in person!

Lite box of eggs and a prim bunny. Bunny is a Tennessee Ridge Primitives design. I bought a bunch of old peat pots from the flea market for $2.00 and used one for the box here. Turned out really cute!

Another prim egg carton. These are selling as fast as I make them. A really popular item this year.

Primitive style bunny with stick legs. This was a free pattern by Sweet pea Primitives in Mercantile Gatherings Magazine.

Prim Angel, pattern by positively Primitives.

Chick on a spring. Very cute and really popular this year!

Another prim angel bust which was a free pattern in Mercantile Gatherings Magazine, by Bittersweet Folk-art.

Prairie Spool Dolls, an original by me. They have become quite popular sellers also.

I also made some nap time bunnies. These cuties are made from a pattern by My Primitive Saltbox and are pretty easy. Kathy offers all her patterns at a very affordable price of $2.00 and up. I love her patterns and you can not beat the prices.

I have lots more to do this week, so I better get busy. Before I know it I’ll be out cutting the grass! Woohoo…..Spring has sprung and summers on it’s way!

Oh, and I need to go hunt for the second list of goodies Misi has posted for her scavenger hunt over at 1890 Gable house musings. Boy this one is quite the challenge! Check back for that posting.

Woodworking

Hi Blog Friends,

After all the rain on Thursday, the sun showed itself on Friday and I got to do some woodworking for a change.

I was looking through A Primitive Place magazine and found some patterns I wanted to try.

The first one was making a primitive style soap holder.

Last summer I purchase a bin of old pelt stretchers and have been wanting to do something really unique with them. Once I seen the pattern for the soap holder, I knew right away what I could use to make them.

I purchase some old wood bowls from the thrift store a few weeks ago and hadn't got around to priming them yet. Glad I didn’t.

So, what do you think? I love how it turned out! I even made the old grungy soap to go in it.

And since I was on a roll, I tried my hand at making a primitive style hanging candle holder.

I even made the grungy candles! I love how old world it turned out too.

It was so nice to get to do some wood crafts for a change. I can’t wait til the weather stays warm so I can do some of the other wood crafts I have planed.

Gotta go put these in my selling booth! Have a great weekend!

Swap Goodies

I received some wonderful swap goodies in the mail yesterday.

A few weeks ago Sheila from Season of thy heart emailed me to ask if I would do a swap with her for one of my cone rabbits.

She said she did prim can arrangements and did not know if I’d like anything she had to offer. I visited her blog and found an arrangement I liked and told her I loved Gerber Daisies and collected Americana.

Well just look at what she sent me!

I so love this arrangement. And can you see the buttons? How prim perfect! Sheila is so talented! She even prims the silk flower!

Yep, she sent me an Americana one too! I was overwhelmed with joy when I opened the box and seen the goodies she sent. Oh, and that’s not all, she even sent a wax pineapple tart!

Sheila~ Thank you so much for all the goodies. I love them all and they are so prim perfect for my décor. I’m sure we’ll be doing another swap in the future =) If you have not visited Sheila’s blog, go on over and become a follower. I can definitely tell you her arrangement are well worth a look.

A dream come true

Hi Blog Friends,

I hope everyone is doing well today. I wanted to share some exciting happenings with all my blog buds.

This past weekend I learned of a new prim shop opening in my little town, so I had to go down an check it out. It name is Simple Tymes Primitives. This shop is chocked full of prims and I could not help myself once I walked in. (good thing I just got my tax refund back) heehee.

I have always wanted an antique Hoosier and antique Pie Safe and guess what~ they had both. Most of the ones I’ve seen in my travels where either to high priced for my taste or in very poor condition.

Look at this beautiful Hoosier! It has all the bells and whistles!

The flour sieve even has the original screen and crank in it! I fell in love with it as soon as I seen it.

Here it is all decorated in my kitchen.

See the little chicks in the picture, I got those a few years ago at a shop in PA. They are all hand felted and oh so cute =) The tin box sitting on there is an old biscuit box, it has a paper label inside that reads~Maryland Biscuit Company. One of my favorites.

Here’s the pie safe. Yep, couldn’t leave without it too.

I asked the shop owner if the tin was original to the safe, cause its in such nice condition and he said it was. There’s not a lick of rust on it so I’m not sure.

Here it is all decked out. I'm using the inside for storage since I can’t leave the doors open. Great place to hide some of my craft supplies =)

See the grungy eggs in the pie pan? I made them the other night to put on top of the safe. I used the paper Mache eggs I purchased and just painted them black, sanded lightly and then put another coat of black paint mixed with a little burnt umber and while still wet, rolled them in cinnamon. I love how they turned out. Looks just like blackened wax eggs!

This is one of my favorite Spring items. I purchased this prim duck last year at an art show in VA, from Millstone Gatherings.

I brought my old Pepsi crate wagon out from storage so my girls could enjoy themselves. It now sits under the pie safe.

I’ve been so occupied with my new purchases that I have not gotten any crafts done. Gonna have to get off here an start on them. I purchased a few new patterns and can’t wait to get to work on them!

Easter items I’ve been working on

Hi Blog Friends,

Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying some of the beautiful sunny spring like days we’ve had lately.

Old man winter is still trying to hold on in my neck of the woods, but I’m being optimistic that spring is just around the corner.

I took a break from crafting a few days ago to stop at some of my junk shops and GW shops in my area, but only found a few wood bowls to make over. I can’t wait for the yard sale season to start, so I can get out there and find some good bargains. I did actually stop at a yard/moving sale today and found a bunch of plastic candy cane yard stakes, but the guy wanted to much money for them. I think he thought his junk was priceless. lol. Oh well, I come across these types from time to time an figure they can just keep it if it’s worth that much to them.

I have a few things I can share pics of that I’ve finished up lately. For some reason I feel like I work on stuff all the time but just spin my wheels getting anything done!

Wendy at Ravenwood Whimzies is hosting a Basil Bunny challenge, so I joined in on the fun an created this as my version of Basil bunny. I’m pleased with how she turned out.

I purchased the Peter Rabbit pattern from Kentucky Primitives and have been enjoying making this cute rabbit. I did some with black painted heads and some with brown stained heads. So far my local customers are liking the brown headed bunnies.

These bunnies were made using a pattern offered by Tennessee Ridge Primitives as a free pattern on her website. I love how they turned out. I used an old cutter quilt for the pocket and did two coats of grungy stain on them.

This is a cute simple pattern by Primitive Annies. It was a free pattern I found last year surfing the net.

Something different to break up the monotony. I did a stack of prim stars, which was adapted from a pattern by Tennessee Ridge Primitives.

I wanted to try my hand at making some 3-d prim eggs from cloth, so after trial and error, these are what I came up with. I really like how they turned out. The pic’s not very good but they are pretty grungy in person. I used a paper egg carton and stained it with coffee, then put some prim grass under each egg. I found some paper Kraft eggs at Michaels today – my SIL Amy over at Bumble Bee Lane asked me to be on the look out for them for her, so I picked up some for me too and want to try this arrangement with them and see which I like better. I’m thinking the cloth ones are more primitive, but they are a pain in the you no where to make.lol.

Prim Rabbit

Hi Blog Friends,

Just wanted to stop in and show you what I finished up today.

Meet Ottis Rabbit. He stands approx. 30” from base to top of his head and is aged and primed with coffee and paint. I made him using a pattern purchased from Olde Homestead Barn.

I’m working on a bunch of other items and will share once I have some things completed.

A sweet prim friend

Hi Blog Friends,

I just had to share with you an oh so sweet gift and let you all know Lecia from Farmhouse Prims and I got to meet today and she is such a sweet kindred soul of a person. We hit if off from the start. I just love her. I am looking forward to many more get togethers and sharing our love of prims.

Just look at what Lecia brought with her for my birthday.

This beautiful candle mat all hand stitched by her and a wonderful candle that smells great.

And this beautiful prim prairie bonnet she also made for me. Lecia said she’s a wanna be crafter, but I told her she is a great crafter, as she has done an amazing job on her handmades.

Dingy me as usual did not get a picture of Lecia to post on my blog, but she did get plenty of pictures to share with you all. Be on the look out for her to post about our meeting and the goodies she received from my giveaway.

Lecia, Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the goodies, it means so much to me that you made them. Looking forward to our next get together soon. Bless your sweet little heart.
